Gangs refer to groups created by various people for various illegal activities.  People who often join gangs are young and adventurous enough to do something out of the ordinary and possibly illegal.  Many people have their different opinions regarding gangs and their members but the following 10 things are basic facts regarding this so-called street group:

Fact 1:  Acceptance is the main thing that people want when joining gangs.  Some people may see gang members as simply troublesome or heartless even but the truth of the matter is that most of them need some acceptance from somebody in the society they live in.  The sad thing is that many young people get their acceptance from the wrong friends and people and therefore involve themselves in gangs.

Fact 2:  Gangs typically have their own dress code.  Different gangs from different places do similar things which are often wrong or illegal.  To identify themselves from other gangs and groups, many of them have some sort of rules in terms of how they look or dress up.  In order to become part of the gang or become accepted, one must try to look or dress as the other members would.  This rule also plays a big part in terms of identifying friends from foes when involved in street fights.

Fact 3:  Nicknames are often used for various gang members.  Many young people involve themselves in different gangs but wish to cover up some of their illegal activities by using nicknames rather than their legal or given names.

Fact 4:  Gang lingo is also common for many gangs in different parts of the world.  Words are coined within a particular gang to emphasize their sense of togetherness and to distinguish them from other groups.

Fact 5:  Gangs are also formed because its members were all victims of some kind of rejection from their environment.  Some were not accepted by their families while others get their rejection from school, their friends, or other people.

Fact 6:  Lack of schooling is a common fact among people who join gangs.  Many young people who get influenced to join gangs typically skip school and would rather do mischievous activities with their co-gang members.

Fact 7:  Gang formation and involvement always results to an increase in violence in any given area or city.  Statistics from all over the world will basically show that more crimes are committed when there are more gangs in a given area.

Fact 8:  Imprisonment is also a common occurrence among gang members.  With their illegal activities and actions involving crime and violence, many gang members end up getting caught and sentenced to prison or community service.

 Fact 9:  Drugs and alcohol are almost synonymous with gang formation.  Aside from engaging in illegal activities or crime, many gangs from different parts of the world are the source of drug and alcohol use or abuse.

Fact 10:  Freedom is the most common mantra among gang members.  Many young members of gangs feel free to do whatever they want whether they are good or not.  This is because of the acceptance and tolerance from fellow gang members that pollute many people’s minds into doing abuses to the authorities and the society as a whole.
